Whether or not she’s talented matters little, since her success has as much to do with her being a thin, blonde-haired, blue-eyed, white-skinned young woman. I guarantee you there are just as many talented young women of color out there, who will never have the success Taylor Swift has, because they aren’t white. I’m so sick of white privilege all across the media, so it’s not only Taylor Swift I take issue with. But she is part of this relentless glorification of whiteness that is SO DAMAGING to people of color, especially young girls of color. The fact that she is “inspiring” to girls completely overlooks this fact.
