"Black Wall Street, the name fittingly given to one of the most affluent all-Black communities in America, was bombed from the air and burned to the ground by mobs of envious Whites. In a period spanning fewer than 12 hours, a once thriving Black business district in northern Tulsa lay smoldering – a model community destroyed and a major African-American economic movement resoundingly defused.
The night’s carnage left some 3,000 African Americans dead and over 600 successful businesses lost. Among these were 21 churches, 21 restaurants, 30 grocery stores and two movie theaters, plus a hospital, a bank, a post office, libraries, schools, law offices, a half dozen private airplanes and even a bus system. As could have been expected, the impetus behind it all was the infamous Ku Klux Klan, working in consort with ranking city officials and many other sympathizers.
The best description of Black Wall Street, or Little Africa as it was also known, would be to compare it to a mini Beverly Hills. It was the golden door of the Black community during the early 1900s, and it proved that African Americans could create a successful infrastructure. That’s what Black Wall Street was all about.
The dollar circulated 36 to 100 times, sometimes taking a year for currency to leave the community. Now a dollar leaves the Black community in 15 minutes. As for resources, there were Ph.D.s residing in Little Africa, Black attorneys and doctors. One doctor was Dr. Berry, who owned the bus system. His average income was $500 a day, hefty pocket change in 1910…”

The fact that there is “Black Girls Rock” on BET and no one says anything about it but if another network decided to make “White Girls Rock” it would be considered racist disgusts me.
it’s “WHITE GIRELS RAWK” every day of the year, you mayo lookin bitch
White girls rock is 99.99% of the media, dumbass. The ignorance I’ve dealt with since last night talking about the lack of representation of Black women on SNL astounds me.
Here’s a fun game: count the number of Black people you see on TV. Then ask yourself who these characters are. Do they fulfill of stereotype (loud, uneducated, addicted to drugs, etc.) or do they represent something against the stereotype? You’re gonna be hard pressed to find any Black women, much less those that aren’t forced into fulfilling some stereotype created by white people.
I’m over white ignorance. If I could vom in y’alls faces, I would. The urge is that deep.
I’m over being ignored, silenced, and misunderstood by people who can’t get their heads out of their asses and listen to and feel empathy for others who aren’t part of their lily white race.

Tonight will be my first time this season watching a full episode of SNL because Kerry Washington is on tonight! She is only the 9th Black woman to ever host the show, so watch and show your support. We need more Black women on this show.

So reading one article on Buzzfeed about one of the recent Halloween Blackface incidents has lead me to a string of Blackface incidents reported on early this year. It’s 2013. Blackface has been around somewhere in the ballpark of 150 years. Have people not found new ways to be racist? Like, wipe off your tacky bronzer or black smudge and just say you hate Black people. I don’t need the visual.

So one of my Asian friend’s Asian friends was dressed as a stereotypical Native girl for Halloween.
This is why being aware of the world and intersectionality and all that is so important. And it’s also why white people can’t be trusted to write and teach history because they teach their bullshit- like the false idea that Natives no longer exist or that racism is no longer an issue for Black Americans- to kids of color. Which I think is partly to blame for why we have Kanye using an image of a skull dressed in a Plains headdress, Asian girls using blackface and redface, and so on.
I just want people of color to do better. I’m not perfect but every day I try to learn more about struggles outside of my own. Because we as POC are so much better together than separate.
According to National Geographic, this is what the average American will look like in the year 2050.
Oh my gosh, 50 years ago this was not the case and I absolutely love how interracial we’re becoming… incredible.
and fucking beautiful
"According to National Geographic, this is what the average American will look like in the year 2050." False. The actual report had a lot of pictures of attractive biracial/multiracial people in America today, and said that they were becoming more common, not that this is how the average American would look in 37 years. Here’s the link to the actual article.
yeah multiracial people aren’t “from the future” you weirdos, they already exist!!!!
Ummm yeah I realize history class barely mentioned multiracial people at all, but we’ve been around for a long ass time (Try centuries, at the very least.) Also while I’m on this topic, let’s end this myth that the increase of multiracial people will magically wipe out racism. Shit don’t work like that. If it did, my white family wouldn’t say ignorant ass shit around/to me.

My 18 year old white male cousin keeps saying dumbass things on facebook in response to his sociology 101 class. He is so basic, he can’t even see past his own perspective. I WANT TO SLAP HIM.
But I’m going to hold my tongue because the things I’ve said in the past seem to only make him think I’m super radical (which I am haha) and he can’t seem to understand even remotely where I or any person of color or even a white person who is critical of society and talks about oppression is coming from.
I know I gotta leave it alone but he’s like the itch you just gotta scratch ughhhhhhh.
